This workshop will start with a 30 minute lecture on the historical context of Japanese eroticism and rope as a tool for nonconsentual torture in Japan's Tokugawa period. Then we will analyze the 20th century development of semenawa or torturous rope as a common BDSM practice. 

 

We will briefly analyze the methodology of predicament bondage looking through the theoretical framework of sustainable, stress, suffer, and sweat.

 

We will look at various predicament positions and discuss creative approaches to “turn up the heat”.

 

The technical ties we will cover will be the  ebi shibari / shrimp tie position.
