To Stem, or ...?
Comparing Box Ties

December 12th, 12:00 - 3:00pm
$60 per pair, $20 audit
Description
The box tie is a versatile and highly customizable harness with many iterations. With so much competing information out there, how do we decide which TK is right for the situation? Come learn more about this iconic tie by comparing a “two rope” stemless and “three rope” stemmed version.
We will cover
-
Body mechanics of setting the arms
-
What each component of the tie accomplishes
-
Strengths and weaknesses of each form
-
Customizing the harness for your partner
During class we will have an opportunity to tie and load (if desired) each version of the box tie in a partial suspension. Participants are encouraged to bring challenges they’ve had in box ties to discuss possible adaptations.
Prerequisites
Those tying should have some familiarity with tying a stemless/ “two rope”/ V shaped box tie or a stemmed/ “three rope”/ T shaped box tie pattern and its associated anatomical risks. If you wish to load your box tie in a partial, you should know how to suspend as this information will not be covered in class.
Those being tied should be comfortable with their hands behind their back, communicating while in rope, and self assessing for nerve impairment/ injury.
Required materials:
-
3-6 full hanks of rope
-
a cutting tool
-
2 carabiners or a ring (if planning to suspend)
Suggested materials: supplies for notes, snacks, water bottle with a lid, and a floor pillow or meditation bench.
